Modifying ecoinvent data - Example of an electricity mix modification

To change the electrical mix of the “injection molding | RER” data to French mix, follow these steps:

• Open the Database interface (1), choose the corresponding database (2), type the name of the data to be modified in the search field (3), click on the export button to export the displayed data (4).

• Access the ecoinvent database website and enter “injection molding” in the search field (5). Then select “Allocation, cut-off by classification” (6) and click on the search button (7). Open the UPR view of the required data (8).

• Scroll down to open details on “electricity, medium voltage” (9). Data concerning the exact type of electricity used (10) and its quantity (11) must be collected.

• Return to the database interface and search for “market group for electricity, medium voltage rer” in the search field (12). Export this data (13).

• Find the data for the French electricity mix (14) and export it (15).

• Add three exported data to the Excel file to change quantities. For each environmental impact, the formula is: Impact Injection moulding - (electricity RER x 1.48 kWh) + (electricity FR x 1.48 kWh). (16)

• Copy and paste the values obtained into the import format file (17) and indicate information such as the new project name, organization name, etc.

• Return to the database interface and click on the “Import data” button (18).

• Select the corresponding base (19), choose a file to import (20) and click on the “Import” button (21).
