Unit Conversion

It is possible to modify the units used in the Life Cycle Assessment module. A single dataset can be used with different compatible units. For example, for a mass-based activity, the value can be expressed in kilograms (kg), grams (g), milligrams (mg), or tonnes (t). This feature applies to:

  • Component mass

  • Activity units within stages:
    • Material
    • Process
    • Use
    • End of life

This provides greater flexibility and helps reduce precision errors. The following units are supported for conversion:

  • Mass: kg, g, mg, t
  • Length: m, cm, mm
  • Surface: m2, cm2, mm2, ha
  • Time: h, hour, min, minute, s, second, d, day, year
  • Energy: kWh, Wh, MWh, GWh, J, kJ, MJ, GJ
  • Volume: m3, cm3, l, ml, cl
  • Mass * time: kg*day, g*day, mg*day, t*day
  • Surface * time: m2*year, cm2*year, mm2*year
  • Length * time: m*year, cm*year, mm*year
  • Mass * length: ton*km, metric ton*km, t*km, kg*km, g*km, mg*km

This change also impacts the XLSX import format for models. Older import files are therefore no longer compatible as-is.
